..."A smile that never failed to light up the page"**
The reviews are in: the critics have spoken!
Here are what some of the experts are saying about the Roxy Brewer website!
From B.W.Thanks for the Russ Meyer tribute. Too many people probably
don't know who he is and what his movies meant to those of us growing up in the 50's and 60's.
And Ann Marie of "...The Ultravixens" was an absolute knockout, whatever happened to her?"
And if you're wondering who the cute "girl next door" is (the photo on the left)
read the next email from Peter G. who wrote:
"I like your Links page. You feature different ones than the 'usual suspects'. I especially
appreciated discovering Erica Campbell. What a cutie! She seems fresh and natural...more like
a sexy 'girl-next-door' type. Which I really find attractive.
From the legendary MICHELLE ANGELO:"I love the site!"
And from the also legendary KITTEN NATIVIDAD:"I remember her. It is a wonderful site."
From none other than the equally legendary CANDY SAMPLES:"I checked out your site and
I think it's a great tribute. I do remember she was a very private person".
**The above quote is from "James" who hit the nail on the head with
his email:"Congratulations on preparing a great tribute to such a beautiful woman. It was a pleasure
to see those photos again. Roxy did really have it all - a fantastic body, gorgeous breasts, and
a smile that never failed to light up the page."
From Candy S. & Roxy fan "Tum": I knew nothing about her until
I saw that famous clip of her jumping out of the cake in the Burt Reynolds film (Hooper).
It too kyears until the internet came along to help me with my quest for anything Roxy, and
of course thanks to afficionados like yourself".
From: "Buddy Sam" who wrote: "Thanks for the great Roxy site and thanks for the word on Sarenna Lee. I'd never heard of
her, or seen her before, but that photo of her that you ran in your April Gallery was too much
to ignore. I checked out her site and WOW! I joined up. Yes, it cost money, unlike your great
FREE Roxy site, but you were right, she's in the big, brassy Roxy mode, only a bit more explicit at
times (only to be expected some 30 years after Roxy's heyday). Here's one of my favorite pictures I thought I'd send along
and share (on the right). And thanks again. Let
me know if you come across another "discovery".
From "Larry L": "Did you know about a movie called "Round Trip To Heaven" featuring Roxy, I found
it on Google and it was done in the 90's, quite a while after her retirement. Do you know anything about this
one?
I'm glad you brought this up because it was something I wanted to mention in my Film page when
I first started this site and I eventually forgot about it. That film "Round Trip..." features
a swimsuit model named ROWanne Brewer. This is her picture on the right. And while she certainly
is easy on the eyes, it's not ROXanne Brewer. Google (actually Yahoo Movies) made an error and I've always been meaning
to bring it to their attention. There's just one letter's difference in the names so I guess it's
understandable, except to true Roxy fans! So the answer is, "Round Trip" is NOT a ROXy movie. (As a matter of fact
it's a teen comedy with Corey Feldman). And to my knowledge it's the only film ROWanne Brewer has made.
From Candy S. & Roxy fan "Tum":"I knew nothing about her until I saw that famous clip of her jumping
out of the cake in the Burt Reynolds flick (Hooper). It took years until the internet came
along to help me with my quest for anything Roxy, and thanks to aficionados like yourself"
From "Jazzboy":"Am a big Roxy Brewer fan. So glad I discovered the site a few
weeks ago. She certainly was a fabulous babe."
From a Roxy fan who calls himself "The Seeker": "While Roxy was my favorite from
that era, here was another model who'd caught my eye. She went by the single name of "Monica"
and she posed during the 70's, but I've only been able to find very few pictures of her. I'm sending you
a couple of them to see if anyone knows anything about her, or where I can find more
of her pictures. Thanks."
I posted these two pictures on the AUGUST update but it looks we drew a blank on finding
out more about this great looking model. As this response from "James E"
put it:
Sure wish I could help. I'd love to see more pictures of "Monica". She looks like a surfer
babe. I have quite a selection of 70's and 80's mags but couldn't find her at all.
And apparently neither could
anyone else, although this interesting bit of information comes from "Charlie S"
who was lawyer who worked for AAE, which produced many of the men's magazines of that era (see
Roxy on Film for more) he recalls:
At first I was certain I didn't know her, although the poses show that either Lance Kincaid
was the photographer, or they were taken by someone who followed his style: the leaning-back-in-the-
chair-crotch-shot is his trademark. Then I started thinking 'Judy'?, 'Julie'? Something like
that. As you know the names given various models usually depended on the whim of the magazine
editor. She may have been at one of the periodic AAE conventions...Milton Luros (who owned AAE)
would call together various folks; editors, distributors, lawyers...about 4 times a year
at the Chatsworth headquarters for a long weekend of brainstorming.
...Between meetings Milt would have a few of the girls circulate, usually in bikinis or cut off T-Shirts, serving
drinks, and 'Monica' may have been among them. I don't specifically recall the name but she
she may have been there using 'Judy' or 'Julie'. Every AAE model was trying to break into
movies, and a handful of talent scouts cruised the conventions, and of course some who claimed to be talent scouts
also showed up..."
And here's an interesting proposition from "J.S. of Huntington Beach":
Uschi, Roxanne, Marsha Jordan, Roberta Pedon, Sharon Kelly, Erica Gavin, Raven DeLaCroix,
Shari Eubanks, Haji and Candy Samples should get together and collaborate on a book
together about their lives and films - and include a ton of the best and sexiest photographs.
I'd be first in line to buy it. I believe there's a market for such a book. All the fine
ladies I've mentioned (and others who might want to join in who were big in that period
1965-1978) have a lot of loyal fans and followings. And for those who are uninitiated,
you have the curiosity factor. A collaborative effort like this would, I think, be a huge
best seller."
I do too. What a great idea. And speaking of Candy & Uschi, et. al. we can't forget the passing away of the one and only
Russ Meyer who's appreciation of big busty women made them, and him, legendary. I doubt if this site
would have looked the same without him blazing the trail. Take a look at the
Last Page for a commemoration of his career.
An interesting question. Ann Marie apparently didn't do any more movies after "...the Ultravixens",
at least none that I've been able to locate, and she posed for very few photo shoots. The
pictures above are some of the very rare ones she did. It's a wonder
Meyer didn't use her again. Another mystery is why Roxy never appeared in any of Meyer's
films. She certainly had the requisite qualifications! It's a question I'd love to ask her
if I ever got the chance.
And here's an email from E.F. that immediately caught my attention
when he titled it:
MY ROXY BREWER STORY:
"I cannot say exactly when my fevered teenage brain first became fixated on Ms. Brewer. I do
know it was as much that snaggle-tooth of hers as it was those great tits. She fueled many a
fantasy. Fast forward to the mid-70's.
At the height of the Alaska pipeling boom, I had been discharged from the service in Fairbanks and was living there. I was in a downtown hotel bar,
the Chena View Hotel, and Roxy walked in the door with a guy. It took me awile to screw up my
courage but I finally went over and told her how much I admired her work. It was the thrill
of my lifetime to meet her. I can only assume she was performing at one of the strip clubs
there at the time.. If memory serves, the converstaion was no more that a "How do you like
Fairbanks in February?" That sort of thing.
I was sure she was getting a lot of attention
while in town. She would have been hard to ignore if was was dancing/stripping. And
considering the pipeline was being built, I can only IMAGINE the kind of money and tips
she would pull in...I worked nights at the time, so if she was dancing I did not get to see
her. At the time she would most likely have worked at a place called 'The Lonely Lady',
which was the only classy place in Fairbanks at that time. The town had a huge army base
(Fort Wainright), and an air force base (Ellison AFB) with thousands of GI's stationed at
both. Maybe there is somebody out there who worked at one of them, or worked on the pipeline
and can also recall her. You never know."
So for those of you who may have missed this little gem, here she is again, looking like she
could have just stepped out of "Leave It To Beaver". Well, almost...Wally should have been
so lucky.!
